Honda Brio Vs Maruti Alto 800: Choosing Your Car

Maruti Suzuki India with its brilliant vehicle ranges has been the most popular name in most of the Indian house hold but with various international car brands growing their market well in India and offering vehicles for all kinds of buyers, choosing from those international brands or from India’s own car maker has become a bit difficult.  Here is a brief comparison of Honda Brio Vs Maruti Alto 800, to make you decide well. Just have a quick look at both the cars to figure out what suits your purpose more.

Power & Mileage:

Brio comes loaded with 1.2litre, SOHC i-VTEC petrol engine of 4 cylinder 16 valves and 1198cc displacement  mated with 6 speed manual transmission as well as 5 speed automatic transmission options. It is capable of producing a maximum power of 86.8bhp at 6000rpm and top torque of 109Nm at 4500rpm.

The top mileage offered by the hatch is 19.4kmpl for the manual transmission and 16.5kmpl for the automatic transmission option.

The revamped version of Alto comes loaded with 796cc, 3 cylinder 9 valve petrol engine, a more efficient version of earlier 0.8litre petrol engine. The Bharat Stage IV emission norms complying petrol mill is capable of churning out maximum power of 47.5bhp at 6000rpm and maximum torque of 69Nm at 3500rpm.

The top mileage offered by the hatch is 22.74kmpl for the petrol variants and a smashing 30.46km/kg for CNG variants.

Interiors:

Brio hatchback is pretty well designed, sufficiently spacious and offers equally spacious boot space.  You get huge legroom and enough headroom together with technologically most advanced features like electrically adjustable ORVMs, USB & AUX-in integrated audio system with the controls mounted on the steering. You get good storage space and 5 people can comfortably fit in.

Maruti Alto 800 has really good space inside. Good leg-room, knee room, head room and shoulder room at the front and the back. 5 regular sized people can sit inside in most comfortable manner, however the thigh support still needs to be improvised and the comfort part is also not equivalent to the competitors.  There is enough storage space, and better technical features.

Exteriors:

The Honda hatch is most sportier is appearance and looks both pretty and smart at the same time! Its most elegant curves will get your eyes stuck on it, the grilles are just awesome and the sharp cat eye like head lights are most impressive. The rear of the car is equally attracting.

Maruti Alto 800 is far smarter and contemporary compared to its earlier version. It looks sportier and is pretty attractive. With 800 in the market, older Alto won’t be liked by the buyers now. It looks somewhat like A-Star with slight touches of Ford Figo. It is a small and sober car that will be loved by small family buyers.

Verdict:

If mileage, pricing, and after sales are to be seen Alto 800 is the best hatch to go for but if you prefer looks, comfort, and style go for Honda Brio.

The Indian SUV market has taken a big new step with the launch of the SsangYong Rexton, owned by Mahindra and Mahindra. The Korean SUV maker is expected to rollout more quality SUVs in the country. The market is following the US market asmore and more high end SUVs coming out regularly.

Exterior: In comparing the exteriors, the Rexton is a big and bulky SUV with a sporty and aerodynamic design. The front has a dual grill one between the headlamps and one between the fog-lamps, to provide extra cooling to the big engine. The Fortuner also follows the same bulky design and looks even sportier than the Rexton. The body is nicely designed, with bold curves and edges all over the body. The large chassis of both the vehicles provides great road presence.

Interior: On the inside, the Rexton is lavishly decorated with good quality beige leather. The gear knob and the steering wheel are wrapped in leather. The 3 row seating is spacious with good legroom and each seat has an individual ac vent to increase the comfort of every passenger. The interior of the Fortuner is done neatly in two tone beige leather, which gives the cabin a very luxurious and comfortable feel. The broad SUV has good shoulder room and good headroom to seat all the people easily.

Power and Performance: The Rexton is powered by a 2.7-litre diesel engine with a displacement of 2696CC. The huge engine has an impressive power output of 165PS@4000rpm and a maximum torque of 329Nm@1800-3250rpm. The car performs well in city traffic and is good enough to go off road once in a while. The Mighty Fortuner is powered by a huge 3.0-litre which produces a maximum power of 168PS@3600rpm and a maximum torque of 343Nm@1400-3400rpm. The engine comes with turbocharger and intercooler which provides amazing performance in terms of speed and power.

Mileage: Both the cars are powered by huge diesel engines and so, mileage is not supposed to be the best feature on the brochures. The Rexton provides a modest mileage around 9.1 to 9.8 kilometres to the litre with the variation arising due to the different driving conditions. The Fortuner though, with a bigger engine has a rather impressive mileage of 11 kilometres to the litre on the highway but a very low of 7 kilometres to the litre on city roads.

Competition will soon evolve: Nissan Evalia vs. Maruti Ertiga

It quiet interesting to see that other Automobile Company are trying to follow the trail of Maruti Ertiga. The new MPV Nissan Evalia is going to arrive soon and will sure make a difference so far in MPVs segment car like Innova and Xylo. Here comparison is being made with Nissan Evalia vs. Maruti Ertiga.

Engine: Nissan Evalia is going to be present only in Diesel engine with 1.5 litre common rail turbo diesel engine, which is capable of generating 85 hp power and Nm of torque.

On the other hand Maruti Ertiga is available in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is powered with k-14B, 1.4 litre engine that churning out 95Ps of power @6000rpm and with the maximum torque of 130 Nm @4000rpm. The diesel Ertiga has 1.3 litre engine with the peak power of 90 Psv@4000 rpm and 200 Nm torque @1750 rpm.
Mileage: ARAI has certified Nissan Evalia mileage around 19Kmpl, mileage of Maruti Ertiga Petrol is 16 kmpl and diesel engine gives around 20kmpl, quiet impressive.

Price: Nissan Evalia has been brought thoughtfully keeping in mind the Indian standards and the price has been kept between Rs. 8 lakh to 10 lakh and Maruti Ertiga price ranges from 6 lakh to Rs. 8.9 lakh for high end diesel model.

Interiors: Interiors of Evalia is not that appealing it has simple looks with old style AC and other interiors are too glossy, no doubt the dashboard is very useful but less attractive. Personally, Ertiga interiors are bit better and dual tone finish is cool and takes the points away from Evalia.

Exteriors: Ertiga is charmingly designed to look sleek in spite of a MPV. The LUV thoughtfully reflects in every aspect of Maruti Ertiga. Nissan Evalia poses a decent look from front but it is boxy from side and rear, to say it does not make an impression.

Handling: Coming to handling, Evalia has better stance and steering is lighter which will help in city drive. The engine is bigger and will give better pickup. The space in Evalia is also better as compare to Ertiga.

Features and Safety: Nissan Evalia has cup holders at each side of front dash boards,  simple centre console, rear AC vents, rear monitor cameras, integrated audio system with AM/FM/CD feature, central locking system, keyless entry, power steering, tables fixed at back of front seats. The safety features included in Evalia are dual airbags, ABS and EBD, Engine Immobilizer.

Maruti Ertiga has MP3 player with AM, FM and Radio with remote control, steering mounted audio control, keyless entry, power windows, electrically adjusted mirrors, USB facility and so on. Safety aspects Ertiga ensures are two front airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, high tensile roof and engine immobilizer.

Verdict: Nissan Evalia is sure a MPV with great head room and leg space and strong engine whereas Maruti Ertiga which has been uniquely featured as LUV is lighter for city drive accommodates 7 passengers the last row is stuffy. Ertiga has gain popularity as when it was launched there was no hurdle on its way; let’s see how much struggle Evalia has to undertake to build its stand.

Nissan Evalia vs. Maruti Ertiga is going to be tough as Ertiga is really a value for money car for the Indian family who are longing to buy a MPV and their dream has been made possible by Maruti foresightedness. The upcoming cars like Quanto from Mahindra and Mahindra etc. will make the scenario different in coming time.

Two Classy Compact Sedan: Mahindra Verito vs. Swift Dzire Diesel

Mahindra Verito and Swift Dzire are premium class compact sedan cars and have made their strong stance in automobile sector. Both the cars are wonderful in their own aspects. But there are certain things which make them differ from each other. Mahindra Verito Diesel vs. Swift Dzire Diesel discussion will throw some light on their comparisons on the basis of following criteria:

1. Engine Specifications and Performance: Mahindra Verito 1.5 D2 Diesel has engine of 1.5L with 65bhp power with dci common rail engine. The maximum power it delivers is 65@4,000 (PS @ rpm) and torque it can go up to is 16.2kgm@rpm. Where as Swift Dzire 1.3L has 75bhp and has turbocharged intercooler engine. The maximum power it can generate is 75@4,000 (PS @rpm) with the maximum torque of 19@ 2,000(kgm @rpm). The turbocharger engine feature is not present in Verito whereas Dzire is equipped with turbocharger.
Both compact sedans have manual transmission with the gearbox of five speeds.

2. Features: When we talk on the basis of features available in both the cars. Swift Dzire steals the show. There are array of features which are present in Dzire but not in Verito. The features like rear view mirror turn indicator, rear window defogger, integrated antenna, tinted glass, outside temperature display, cigarette lighter, power windows, automatic climate control, cup holders in front and rear, multi function steering wheel are some of the basic feature Swift Dzire is backed with but Verito lacks all such things, which makes it bit upsetting. The safety features like Anti-Lock Braking System, Brake Assist, seat belt warning, door ajar warning, keyless entry, seat height adjustment, audio system front and rear with remote control is another worth mentioning features which Dzire can boast of but Verito has to keep mum when we discuss about the features. Moreover Verito does not come with warranty facility for car maintenance whereas Swift Dzire humbly offers 2years time warranty.

3. Price: Price is the most common factor which any consumer will think first of all. As we have seen that Swift Dzire has outsmarted Verito in many aspects. Coming to price the Mahindra Verito has been price tagged between Rs. 6, 18,449 to Rs. 6, 39,192. Swift Dzire cost starts from Rs. 6, 92,507 to Rs. 7, 78,458. The prices mentioned are Ex-showroom price. We can that price of Dzire is more compare to Verito, but Dzire is offering really great things with slightest increased price.

4. Mileage: Verito Diesel delivers 21.03 kmpl and Swift Dzire Diesel has an impressive mileage of 23.4kmpl.

Mahindra Verito and Swift Dzire differs on other basis like weight, the Verito gross weight is more and it is much bigger in exterior dimensions of both length and width comparing to Dzire. The Verito offers better ground clearance of 172mm whereas Dzire has 170mm and wheelbase of Verito is 2,630mm and 2,430mm of Dzire. This shows Verito is going to be bit bulky during driving and handling. Swift Dzire is wonderful in handling and smooth driving. The boot space is more in Verito and Dzire offer lesser storage space.
